Macbeth essay :: essays research papers

A Character in Her Own RightBehind all the extensive men of Shakespeare, there is a women close behind, who is often over looked. These women are just as crucial of a character as the men they follow. In William Shakespeares Macbeth, Macbeth is a mere tool, there to carry out orders for his wife, both of whom desire nothing more than to rule. Together they will do anything, including murder, achieve their goal. maam Macbeth proves to be a tragic figure and possess every capability that a man is able to. Although female, Lady Macbeth has proven herself as a rudimentary influence to the plot of the story, her strong, individualistic ways and unkind plans prove to be the rise and downfall of her maintains reign as king and death, as well as her own. When the reader is first introduced to Lady Macbeth in acts one and two, they receive some insight into who she is and what she stands for. Lady Macbeth is reading a letter from her husband and learns of his desire to be king and to wh at lengths he claims he will go to achieve it. In her response, the presence of a realistic mind set is obvious. She frankly tells her husband that he can not be a good man while taking what is not his. She gets straight to the point and uses other tactics of persuasion to do sure her point is clear. Hie thee hither. / That I may pour my spirits in thine ear/ And chastise with the valor of my tongue/ All that impedes thee from the golden stave (I.iiiii.24-27). Here she is using her sexual hold over Macbeth to further her power over him and get her own way. Lady Macbeth also proves to be truly ruthless as she wishes herself a man filled with cruelty and thick blood so she will not feel any remorse. She also speaks of bashing babies against the wall and neediness for night so that her knife can not see what is does and heaven can not tell her to stop. Lady Macbeth will not let her husband back out of the plot and clearly has thought of everything so the murder goes just the way she wants. She does everything except the actual deed. Lady Macbeth states to her husband, My hands are of your color, hardly I shame/ To wear a heart so white (II.

Comets Essay -- Astronomy Essays Space Outer

CometsHave you ever looked up in the sky and seen a little cluster creeping by?If so, did you wonder what it was? That little b every last(predicate) is called a comet. Cometsare small, fragile, and irregularly shaped. Most are composed of frozen gas. However, some are composed of frozen gas and non-volatile grains. They usuallyfollow rattling strict paths around the sun. Comets become most visible when theycross the sun. This also applies to people who view comets with telescopes. When a comet gets near the sun it becomes very visible because the suns radioactivity starts to sublime its volatile gases, which, in turn, blow away smallbits of the little solid material the comet has.Another feature of a comet is a coherent bob. This is caused by materialsbreaking off and expanding. They expand into an enormous escaping atmospherecalled the coma. This becomes at least the size of our planet. With the cometgoing so fast, these materials are forced behind the comet, forming a long tailo f dust and gas.Comets are cold bodies. We see them only because the gases they arecomposed of glow in the sunlight. All comets are regular family members of thesolar dodge family. They are bound by gravity to a strict path around thesolar system. Scientists believe that all comets were formed of material, originally in the satellite part of the solar system, which did not becomeincorporated into planets. This material is from when the planets just startedforming. This makes comets an extremely interesting topic to scientists who arestudying the history of the solar system. In comparison to planets, comets are very small. They can be anywherefrom 750 meters (or less) to 20 kilometers in diameter. However, lately, scientists have been finding proof that there are comets 300 kilometers indiameter or greater.Comets are still compared to the planets, though. Planets usuallyfollow the shape of a sphere. Most planets are fat at the equator. Comets comein all different shapes and sizes. Most evidence that science has revealed saysthat comets are extremely fragile. A comet is so poorly structured that it islike a loose snowball--it can be pulled apart with ones own bare hands.Comets have very awkward rotation periods. They are very oblong. Whencomets reach their aphelion they are usually near Jupiter or sluice sometimesNe... ... is expected to reach its closed point to thesun. At this time it will also be most visible because the sun reflects off thetail of the comet. It will come .914 astronomical units from the sun. This is not allthat close to the sun considering the fact that some comets have run into thesun and others have skimmed the muster of it.Although the comet will be closest to the sun on April 1, it will beclosest to the earth on March 23, 1997. Some people have been motto that thecomet will hit earth and cause human extinction, just like the dinosaurs. Thefact is, however, THE COMET WILL NOT HIT EARTH. The closest it will come is one hundred twentymill ion miles away from the earth. Some people are saying that the comet is going to Be huge, and otherssay it will be small. We will never know though because we can not see thenucleus of a comet. The part of the comet we see is the tail. The tail of acomet can be over 10,000 kilometers long.In all, comets, the history of comets, and comets time lag to bediscovered is very interesting. I think that one day we will get to see thenucleus of a comet, and be able to suck comets form in the Oort Cloud.

Lorraine Hansberrys A Raisin In The Sun :: essays research papers

The civil rights movement brought enlightenment towards the abolishment of segregation laws. Although the laws are gone does segregation still outlive in fact? &8220What happens to a dream deferred, does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? said, in a poem by Langston Huges. The story, A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry showed segregation and its affects upon all races. This essay will show how Assimilationists and New Negroes fought for their own identity in the mid twentieth century. Whether they were being dead on target to themselves or creating carbon copies of oppression was determined by one&8217s view upon society.Passivity only prolonged sorrow against the battle against segregation. Mrs. Johnson in A Raisin in the Sun is passive to the actions taken upon her. In the story she acts like a strong person by saying, &8220Wilhelmina Othella Johnson does anything, whenever she wants While in reality she is easy individual. The United States during World War 2 were subm issive towards Hitler at first. This gave Hitler time to gain power and support of the people. If the Unites States had acted sooner towards Hitler the war would&8217ve ended quickly. This is a correspondent paradox to Mrs. Johnson&8217s attitude towards segregation and racism in the story.Ignorance and propaganda were wide spread creating more and more assimilationists exponentially. Racism caused African people to hate themselves and at that place culture. Through this misunderstanding Black people wore different styles of clothing, adapted different tones in speech, and different goals in life. Walter in A Raisin in the Sun by Hansberry, wanted to buy a booze store because he hated being a servant for the white man. In buying a liquor store he would create apathy and hate in the black community by the alcoholism that his store would create. Through Walters own financial achiever would be the failure of hundreds of others. Propaganda and Hatred towards the Jewish population le ft some Jews hating themselves. They thought that it was on that point fault for being Jewish and developed groups of anti-Semitic Jews, destroying the there own culture. The battle against racism was fought with the help of many people. Beneatha in the story, A Raisin in the Sun by Hansberry, was always trying to find herself within the story. Whether it would be the guitar lessons she would take or the clothes she would wear, it all meant something to her.
